Yoga, Pilates and Barre
Yoga, Pilates and Barre: There are quite a few yogic paths that aid in connecting and awakening our own consciousness. These include tantra, mantra, laya, kundalini, bhakti, jnana, karma yoga, and so on. Each of these styles specializes their own techniques and methods in awakening a greater awareness and connection to ourselves and to life. Yoga practices include posture (asana), breathing (pranayama), control of forces (mudra and bandha), cleansing the body and mind (shat karma), visualizations, chanting of mantras, and other forms of meditation.
Pilates is a body conditioning system that improves muscle tone, balances musculature, builds flexibility and muscle strength. It also increases endurance in the legs, abdominals, arms, hips, and back. It puts emphasis on spinal and pelvic alignment, breathing, and developing a strong core or body center, which improves coordination and balance. It promotes correct posture and teaches how to move with ease and grace. The Pilates system allows various exercises to be modified in range of difficulty from beginner to advanced. The intensity can be increased over time as the body conditions and adapts to the exercises.
Barre: Barre classes combine postures that are used in ballet and other disciplines like yoga and Pilates. The actual barre is used for balance while doing exercises that focus on isometric strength training (i.e. holding your body still while contracting a specific set of muscles). This is combined with high repetitions of small range motion movements. Classes also incorporate light weights to bring the burn during all the reps, as well as mats for targeted core work. Which ever method you choose yoga, pilates and barre all work and deliver. For Answers to any questions you may have please call Dr. Jimenez at 915-850-0900
