Chiropractic care focuses on re-establishing the natural healing of the body through manual adjustments and manipulation of the spine. A chiropractor diagnoses and treats neuromuscular disorders by restoring a healthy functionality between the spine and the nervous system, together with educating on the proper stretches, exercises, and a balanced nutrition to promote further healing. Chiropractic treatment restores normal spinal mobility which in turn alleviates the irritation of the spinal nerve that causes pain and affects the function of the other systems in the body. A chiropractor will offer relief to many conditions and disorders.
Subluxation
A subluxation is a misalignment or dysfunction of the spine. The main causes for a subluxation are trauma, poor posture, arthritis, and even muscle spasms. Neck subluxations are the most common type of misalignment than anywhere else on the spine. Through chiropractic care and physical therapy, a chiropractor will adjust the spine over a series of sessions to align the bones back to their natural state. An untreated subluxation causes pain and discomfort on the spine, leading to other complications such as an impingement of the nerves.
Scoliosis
Scoliosis is an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine, usually developing into an “S” or “C” shape. This condition is caused due to trauma from a previous injury or often times, scoliosis develops as a result of abnormal bone development in children. As parents, it’s important to visit a specialist to give early diagnosis of any possible spinal conditions on a child. A chiropractor can assist with a posture evaluation for prevention of scoliosis and will manually manipulate the spine to return the natural curvature and correct the misalignments to prevent a further lateral curvature.
Disk Degeneration
Degenerative disk disease is one of the most common causes of neck and back pain. As we age, the body undergoes natural degeneration through wear and tear of the bones and joints. The bones of the spine are separated by disks but with time, these lose fluid and reduce in size. A degeneration of the disk in the spine is most commonly seen in people over the age of 55 but it can also be caused by other conditions. Chiropractic and physical treatment releases the tension and stress caused by degenerative disk disease, reducing the compression of the nerves in the spine.
Carpal Tunnel
Carpal tunnel syndrome is characterized by numbness, tingling, and weakness in the hands from pressure on the median nerve of the wrist. The pressure on the nerve is due to swelling that is caused by repetitive movements of the wrist. A chiropractor will treat carpal tunnel with physical therapy along with the appropriate stretches and exercises to recover strength and mobility on the hands depending on the degree of carpal tunnel and level of pain.
Achilles Tendonitis
The Achilles tendon is located above the back of the heel and it’s designed to support the weight of the body. The Achilles tendon is essential for the mobility function of the legs during walking, running, and jumping. Overusing the Achilles tendon, commonly seen in runners, will cause an injury of the tendon known as Achilles tendonitis. If this condition is left untreated, further complications will result in compensation of the body, resulting in more pain and even a ruptured tendon.
Chiropractic adjustments are essential to maintain a healthy body. When there is a misalignment of the spine, the signals from the brain to the spinal cord and the rest of the nerves becomes blocked. A chiropractor will restore those functions naturally and without the need for surgery.
