Healthcare assistance is implemented by a practitioner according to every individual’s health concerns and needs. The knowledge and experience of healthcare providers, the medical care preferences of the patient and the facts or evidence regarding the effectiveness of a vast majority of treatments available for specific types of injuries and conditions, are all essential considerations for people when seeking the appropriate healthcare services.
Aside from all these medical interests, with the current state of our economy and the unknown future of healthcare in the United States, consumers not only need the best options for relieving their pain and discomfort or promoting their overall health, people also need the best cost-effective treatments available to them.
After suffering an injury due to an accident or aggravating a previous condition, a simple medical office visit for neck or back pain can be a tremendous concern for many individuals in terms of cost, often progressing to thousands of dollars in medical expenses and medication dependence. An average visit to a medical office can vary widely in price depending on the doctor and nature of the visit. Even for individuals with insurance coverage, a deductible or large co-pay can rapidly add up to undesirable medical bills. In addition, many prescription medications recommended by doctors can be expensive and these may produce harmful side-effects and/or may lead to addiction. By the end of it all, the individual’s symptoms may only be temporarily relieved with opiates, concealing the true underlying cause of the pain and discomfort while the medical costs keep accumulating on your budget.

For many people, this is a real situation they could be currently facing. Fortunately, there is an alternative treatment option which has considerably grown in popularity over the years due to its approach to wellness and prevention healthcare and it’s also been proven to be a great cost-effective form of medical care; chiropractic.
Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on injuries and conditions of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system as well as the effects of these on general health. Chiropractic treatment is most often utilized for but not limited to neck pain, back pain, pain in the joints of the upper and lower extremities and headaches. A chiropractor, or doctor of chiropractic (DC), follows a hands-on, drug-free approach to health care which includes spinal adjustments and manual manipulations. Chiropractors may also recommend therapeutic and rehabilitation exercises alongside nutritional, dietary and lifestyle change advice. Studies and research have demonstrated the effectiveness of chiropractic treatment towards relieving the painful symptoms of numerous individuals by correctly diagnosing the patient and addressing their complications at the source.
Furthermore, recent research has been examining the cost-effectiveness of chiropractic care among other natural alternatives, such as physiotherapy, acupuncture and massage, versus conventional medicine. A 2012 systemic review found spinal manipulation therapy to be more cost-effective for neck and back pain when compared with general practitioner care, physiotherapy or exercise. A study back in 2007 also compared care costs of a patient under the direction of a chiropractor as their primary care physician, or PCP. After a 7-year period, hospital admission costs were decreased by 60.2 percent, cost of days spent in the hospital were decreased by 59.0 percent and outpatient surgeries and procedures were down by 62.0 percent. Not only did chiropractic care prevent complications, improve the rehabilitation speed of the individual, and avoid unnecessary surgeries or procedures, the costs associated with pharmaceuticals decreased by 85 percent when compared to conventional medically driven care because chiropractic relieves symptoms naturally without the need of prescription medications.
As more research reveals the cost-effectiveness of chiropractic treatment for musculoskeletal and neurological complications, such as neck, back pain and sciatica, more insurances have started to include chiropractic as a covered benefit.
If you’re experiencing pain and discomfort or other symptoms as a result of an injury or condition and you haven’t yet been to a chiropractor, it’s time you started. Trauma from an accident or an unexpected disorder can be a daunting situation on its own and finding the appropriate treatment option while eluding excessive medical costs doesn’t have to be a troublesome experience either. The next time you need to see a doctor, help out your body and your wallet by going to a chiropractor.
