Exercises for Posterior Tibial Tendonitis

         Share Free Ebook

The tibialis posterior muscle runs down the tibia bone at the front of your lower leg, wraps around your inner ankle and attaches at the bottom of your foot.

Posterior tibial tendonitis occurs when the posterior tibial tendon becomes inflamed. This condition is known to be a common injury among athletes, such as runners and soccer players. Posterior tibial tendonitis can result due to shin splints, trauma from injury, or from misalignment due to flatfoot or an improper gait. The improper weight distribution of the body can begin to misalign the posterior tibial muscle, often leading to irritation on the tendons. The added stress may cause injury.

As with any other type of injury, rehabilitation through stretches and exercises could help with the recovery process of posterior tibial tendonitis.

The development of posterior tibial tendonitis can result in pain while walking, as this activity places stress on the tibial tendon. Exercising appropriately can alleviate the symptoms and relieve this type of tendonitis. For more information, please feel free to ask Dr. Jimenez or contact us at (915) 850-0900.
